The name is derived from two elements. The orchid and the ankh. One element is the Pahiopedellium orchid, commonly known as venus slipper. The other element being the ankh, an - symbol representing different cycles that come from female and male principles of life. I combined an orchid and ankh into one form. I used materials that already had their own stories, and transformed them into communicating another. The act of welding is similar to the concept of transferring energy— energy cannot be created or destroyed. The sculpture was made from pieces of scrap metal found in my school's welding shop, brass hangers, and welding rods. Every piece was cut and/or shaped with a torch, then welded together with both a Tig and Mig machine. I changed the shape of the scrap metals to communicate my message of regenerating life.
